Activity: Help for families affected by the earthquakes

A form was published to collect information to help families affected by the earthquakes. Each family was interviewed and money was deposited for them based on need. Cash donations of approximately $21,000 were made. In addition, donations received from LULA were distributed. SJ leaders, Carlos and Awilda, along with a group of professional volunteers, visited affected villages and brought them food and basic necessities, toys, shirts and counseling.
HUG A FAMILY WITH AUTISM - HURRICANES IRMA AND MARIA
From September to December 2017
As part of our mission to improve the lives of people touched by autism in PR, and in the face of the damage inflicted by Hurricanes Irma and Maria to our country, we at Alianza de Autismo decided to help the most affected families with autism in Puerto Rico.
We published a short questionnaire, accessible by cell phone or computer, in which people provided us with their personal information, an account of the damage suffered and their immediate needs. We developed a fund-raising campaign and announced available aid on the radio for families to apply for. With funds from our organization and those raised in the fundraising campaign, we were able to impact approximately 2,000 people.
We provided monetary and household goods assistance to approximately 100 families (about 500 people) who requested our help. We also provided their contact information to the Red Cross, FEMA and Adopt a Family PR so that they could also provide assistance.
We held two massive activities called Hug a Family with Autism, one in Arecibo and the other in San Juan, where we offered non-perishable food, personal and home care items, solar-powered lights, water filters, lunches and even toys and a visit from Santa Claus for the children. More than 1,000 people benefited from these two activities.
Approximately $3,000 in cash donations were given and tens of thousands of dollars in merchandise was donated to us. We purchased 100 water filters and solar-powered lights and, along with everything donated, distributed them to the affected families.

Actividad: Ayuda a las familias afectadas por los temblores
Desde el 7 de enero de 2020
Se publicó un formulario para recabar información y poder ayudar a las familias afectadas por los temblores. Se entrevistó a cada una de las familias y se les depositó dinero en base a la necesidad. Se hicieron donativos de efectivo por aprox. $21,000. Además, se repartieron donativos recibidos de LULA. Los líderes de SJ, Carlos y Awilda, junto a un grupo de profesionales voluntarios, visitaron pueblos afectados y llevaron alimentos y artículos de primera necesidad, juguetes, camisas y consejería.
